Cracking from soil movement and heat expansion
Why it happens here
Kearny Mesa's clay soil expands when wet and shrinks when dry, pushing slabs up and pulling them down. At the same time, summer heat causes concrete to expand. Without proper expansion joints, the slab cracks to relieve the pressure.
Our approach
We install expansion joints at the correct spacing and depth to let the concrete move. We also reinforce slabs with rebar or wire mesh and use a mix design that handles temperature swings. This prevents the cracking that plagues older Kearny Mesa driveways.
